Clear Aligner Treatment

There are more options than ever before for teeth straightening. Our orthodontic patients come from all walks of life, at different ages and stages. We are seeing more adult patients than ever before. Most adults looking for teeth-straightening options don’t want to wear traditional brackets and wires. They are professionals and don’t want their image to change because of orthodontics. We are proud to offer Invisalign and ClearCorrect clear aligner therapies to our patients. Many adults find clear aligners work well for both their professional lives while providing the straight teeth they want.

What is Clear Aligner Therapy?

Clear aligner therapy is a method of teeth straightening that uses a series of clear, plastic aligners rather than brackets and wires to shift teeth into an ideal position. The clear aligners need to be worn 22-24 hours a day for optimal results, but are removable for eating, brushing, and flossing.

Clear aligners can correct issues including

  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Crossbite
  • Gapped teeth
  • Open bite
  • Crowded teeth
  • Crooked teeth

What to Expect

We will assess your overall oral health to ensure there aren’t other more pressing issues that need to be addressed prior to straightening your teeth. If you are a good candidate for clear aligner therapy, the next step is coming in for a 3D scan of your teeth, a detailed image that will provide the basis for your treatment plan. You’ll be able to preview how your teeth will look at the end of the process. After your appointment, we send the image and treatment plan to a lab where your aligners are custom made.

When your first aligners arrive in the office, we’ll contact you to come in for a fitting and give you further instructions from there.

Living with Clear Aligners

The greatest advantage of clear aligners is the ease of everyday wear. Because you can remove the aligners, you can eat and drink normally. It also makes proper hygiene a breeze since aligners can be removed to brush and floss. Wear aligners 22-24 hours a day and clean them regularly. You will receive comprehensive instructions for care during your fitting appointment.

You will switch to new sets of aligners every week or two as treatment progresses. Most cases can be completed within 12-18 months–your individual case will be assessed to determine the treatment time that’s right for you.

Kids and clear aligners

Sometimes, clear aligners are appropriate for teens. To find out if clear aligners will work for your child schedule an in-office consultation.

Trusted. Reliable. Predictable.

Traditional braces, metal or ceramic, consist of brackets (small square pieces) attached to the teeth and then connected by wires that help guide tooth movement. Traditional braces can solve more complex bite issues than some other types of orthodontic therapies. Often braces are a better choice for younger patients as they won’t go missing or get lost.

Taking care of your braces

While you or your child is in braces, it is important to maintain good oral hygiene. Wearing braces can increase risks for white spots and cavities. Be sure to brush and floss at least twice a day to remove any unwanted debris from the brackets.

Are braces uncomfortable?

We tighten braces every few weeks or months depending on your treatment plan. Some patients experience minor discomfort immediately after a tightening appointment. You can relieve soreness by taking over-the-counter pain medication. Most patients are surprised at how little discomfort they experience!

How long will I be in braces?

Each timeline is different depending on the patient. Some patients are in braces as little as 6 months, others might be in braces for a year or more. There is no way to tell without a thorough exam. If you want to find out more about your specific case call us today.

Are braces expensive?

The cost of your orthodontic treatment depends on many factors. Compared to other orthodontic or teeth-straightening options like veneers, traditional braces may cost less. At Marina Hills Dental we accept all insurance plans and offer flexible financing options to help get the orthodontic care you need.
